When a stroke ended his career as a savant concert violist, David (Ian Lauer) was forced to face what he had once neglected on his quest for worldwide musical recognition, including his family, his friends, and himself. His self-discovery was aided after taking up mixed martial arts as a comparative outlet.
After, his love for music is rekindled through fighting. While training in mixed martial arts, he began to not only find himself, but the music that he lost. Through fighting, his hope was renewed.
Ian Lauer gained his martial arts experience at Coszack Karate in Zanesville, Ohio, one of the early MMA clubs in the United States. There, he received his black belt 3 days before his 16th birthday. He began studying the arts of kenpo, wing chun, and judo. Training for the film The Musician was a refresher of his martial arts background, though jujitsu was much different than karate. He found it a challenge to break his old habits of karate because the two forms had so few similarities. Learning techniques such as flection and shielding as opposed to karate blocks did not come easy.
Along with acting, Ian has modeled for George St. Pierre, his favorite mixed martial artists, in the Rush Fit training DVD. After meeting George St. Pierre he learned to appreciate the art in MMA and still possess discipline and humility.
